Wenvoe has played other roles in historical significance; in 1952, on the 15th August, television was broadcast to the whole of Wales for the first time ever via the Wenvoe transmitting station. Historically, Wenvoe has always been known as a flourishing Welsh farming town, over the years, as the population has grown, so too has the housing developments and whilst still a farming community it is much less rural than it once was. The village sits in the middle of Barry and Cardiff city and is part of the Vale of Glamorgan. There are excellent bus links in and out of the village, and it is ten miles from Cardiff centre, which has accessibility to the rest of the country.
With plenty of conveniences in the village, taking a trip to Cardiff or neighbouring towns isn't always necessary. The village boasts a post office, a hotel, a library, hairdressers, and a church. Additionally, with three local centres and three pubs, the hub of the community exists all over the village. There is much in the way of outdoor space, with fields, forests and parks available for exercise, playing, picnics and gatherings. The local school and village halls host countless events and are part of what brings the village together. Llanelli Wetland Centre is close by and a great outdoor space with over 450 acres of wetlands with fabulous walks, play areas, rare nature and animals, adventure parks and water sports.
