About Rogerstone
This large village in Newport, Wales, has approximately 11,000 residents and lies at the gateway to the Sirhowy valley. Bordered by the M4 motorway to the south, the Ebbw River to the west, and the Henllys Vale to the east, the village is accessible to visitors and to other areas of Wales, including Newport City Centre, which is just 3 miles away and Cardiff 12.5 miles. In 2014, the nearby Celtic Manor Resort hosted the Nato Summit; as part of the annual event, the Mount Pleasant Primary School students were visited by former Prime Minister David Cameron and US President Barack Obama. As a result, one of the streets in the Jubilee Park housing development was named Obama Grove in homage to this special event.
The Rogerstone Community
The canal draws a sizable tourist crowd, particularly those looking to walk or cycle along the route and enjoy the area's stunning natural sights. Additionally, Welfare Grounds and the Mescoed Mawr woodlands are popular spots for locals and visitors looking to walk the dog, play, exercise or enjoy the idyllic setting of the location. The area is a draw for young families, with four primary schools in the local community and secondary school options, which are a short distance in neighbouring towns. With Newport centre a short distance, there is so much to do in and around the area. With an abundance of high street shops, restaurants, pubs, leisure centres and museums, there is something for everyone in the area.
