Did you know…

On Calonne Road, you can find ‘Wat Buddhapadipa’, the first Thai Buddhist temple to be built in the UK. Affiliated with London’s Royal Thai Embassy, it was inaugurated by the King and Queen of Thailand in 1966, where they gifted a black bronze buddha, thought to be 600 800 years old. You can also find a gold Buddha which travelled from Bangkok’s Grand Palace in 1990. This majestic place of worship also welcomes visitors of any faith and lies east of Wimbledon Common, with epic views.

About Wimbledon

Wimbledon is a district and town in southwest London and part of the London Borough of Merton. It is located 7 miles from Central London, which can be accessed by rail within 40 minutes into London Waterloo. It also conveniently sits on the District Line of the London Underground, with a tram service connecting to other parts of South London, via Mitcham and East Croydon, onto Beckenham, Kent.

Wimbledon is home to the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, which began at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in 1877, and still exists today on Church Road. It is a private members club and the best-known venue for the Championships, being the only Grand Slam Tennis event to be held on grass. While on the subject of grass, you can also find one of the most extensive common lands in London, which also houses Putney Common and Putney Lower Common, totalling to 1,140 acres. It is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation because it is an important home for wildlife.

The Wimbledon Community

Wimbledon has a population of 68,187 and is made up of two parts: Wimbledon town centre, which is where you can find the train and underground stations, and Wimbledon Village, positioned at the top of the hill with an abundance of affluent restaurants, bars, retail and several activities. Rich in heritage, the two parts of town exude distinct atmospheres from one another, with any visitor or resident of the area finding a range of options to suit all needs.

For some leisurely viewing, head on to Wimbledon’s landmark and Grade II listed building, the New Wimbledon Theatre. This Edwardian Baroque venue first opened its doors in 1910 and seated an audience of up to 1,670. The theatre partners with many organisations to play an active role in the community; its  Studio,, seating up to 66, welcomes new writers, comedians, producers and directors. And it does not end there; a little further is Polka Children’s Theatre, with its main auditorium seating 300 and studio for younger children, up to 70. With roots going back to 1967, it puts on award-winning shows and a variety of educational activities guaranteed to keep younger audiences entertained.

We used RE/MAX for the sale of our property. RE/MAX was very helpful from start to finish, always there at the end of the phone when needed. Always chasing for updates. They have been truly amazing! Their costs are also very good value for money when you consider the service they provide. I would highly recommend!

Peter and Joyce - Bristol

We recently sold our house with RE/MAX and are so happy with the service we have received. Our house sold in a matter of days, which is amazing, and Shaun has been contactable at all times for any questions we have. We would definitely recommend using RE/MAX to anyone we know who is thinking of moving home.

Dan Agger - Halesowen

Great service, friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. Great experience. Thanks for finding us our dream home.

Grace and Mark Shaw - Derby

A very friendly, in-depth market appraisal. Lots of information was provided about the reason for the valuation and advice on what improvements should or shouldn’t be made if planning to sell the house soon. Overall a very helpful guide on what our house is currently worth. If we decide to sell we would definitely use RE/MAX.
